‘Do you need rest? Then book your individual spa day & course of treatment at SANATORIUM SONNENLAND. Our spa tram will take you from Urban-Loritz-Platz directly to our location in the 11th district. Discover our wide range of treatments: inhale and exhale in our spiritistic oasis ‘Paradisum’, relax in ‘Tropicarium‘, visit club holiday resort ‘Animarium’, find stress relief in ‘Proelium’, and at last enjoy your special diet served at ‘Alimonium’.’
SANATORIUM SONNENLAND explores and processes the consumerist offers of the leisure and recreation industry. In interactive installations, we show the strenuous search for relaxation in order to keep up as a ‘human resource’ in the machinery of productivity and efficiency.
With our enticing offers, we show the absurd character of health clinics. We do not aim to restore the capacity to work, but to critically reflect our very own real life.
The concept of wellness is a construct of ‘well-being, fitness, happiness’. As a doctrine of salvation, it promises exactly what the working population seems to need as a contrast to their dreary workday. On the leisure market, one finds expensive, rigidly hygienic temples of consumption, labelled as ‘wellness oases’, ‘day spas’, or gyms. Relaxation is incorporated into the capitalist structures and becomes a marketing product.
Conversely, a stay at SANATORIUM SONNENLAND offers its visitors treatments for assisted self-awareness. In the evening enjoy a wellness concert plus a performative intervention by artist YKMANN. Book now!
With their SelfSightSeeing Company, Bastian Petz and Johannes Lernpeiss create interactive art installations that turn into spaces and places of experiences. Their focus lies on installations, space concepts, and performative interventions.
